Veil

Cut down the length of the cone so the face reads as a broad arrowhead, wide across the shoulders and tapering to a blunt rounded end, with a scalloped edge where the scale ends break the outline. Near the top a pale cream patch spreads out around a rust centre, and from it long strands run down both sides in rust, tan and dark brown, parting in the middle and gathering into a deep red-brown band lower down. Two pale seed ends sit near the centre of the face, and the grain keeps running past them to the bottom in honey and tan.

The resin sits thick and glassy over the face and rounds off at the rim, so the scalloped tips are sealed flush and the outer scales along the sides show through tan. A violet flash comes up near the top edge in the light. It hangs from a brass loop on a pale braided cord, and the parted strands stay the first thing you see as it turns.
