Pinwheel small

Cut down the length of the cone so the face comes out as a broad arrowhead, wide across the shoulders and tapering to a blunt rounded tip, with a scalloped edge where the scale ends break the outline. Near the top the core sits as a pale gold disc with fine cream spokes running out of it, and around that the scales fan into rust and cream rays with dark brown lines between the rows. Below the fan the rays draw together into a deep red-brown band, and near the bottom the face goes over to stacked scale ends in tan and honey.

The resin sits thick and glassy over the cut face and rounds off at the rim, so the scalloped tips are sealed flush and the outer scales along the sides show through tan. A violet flash comes up along the upper edge and across the middle in the light, with a few small bubbles caught near the core. It hangs from a brass loop on a pale braided cord, and the starburst core stays the first thing you see as it turns.
