Cut down the length of the cone, so the scales read as long rows curving from the tip up to the wide end. One face is banded turquoise and rust in arcs; the other opens into a pale, feathered burst with the core sitting in the middle of it. The outline is the cone's own, with a stepped, ragged edge where the scale tips end.
The resin sits thick and glassy over the whole face and wraps the edge, filling the dips between scales so the surface is smooth to the thumb. It hangs from a small ring at the narrow end, on a pale braided cord.
